Short reviews, big adventures in reading.

We Are Dragon

We Are Dragon by Alastair Chisholm, illustrated by Karitas Gunnarsdottir Published by Nosy Crow (April ’26)

My Review: This is the perfect final book for what has been a engaging, exciting and thoughtful trilogy. Each book in the ‘I Am Wolf‘ series is told from a different character’s point of view, this one is told from the point of view of Rieka, who is the most private of the children and a tech whizz. The strands of the story are woven together beautifully in this fast-paced and intelligent sci-fi. Expect plenty of action, battles, plot twists, and soul-searching. I was left feeling sad to be leaving Chisholm’s cleverly imagined world for the final time and with a huge soft spot for Kevin the Ant.

Note to Alastair: please write a Kevin the Ant spin-off. He’s a fan favourite!

Suggested For: Science fiction fans and readers who haven’t read any science fiction but like the sound of an imaginative, thrilling story with technology in it (and will hopefully thereafter become firm science fiction fans!)

If You Like This You Might Enjoy: I Am Wolf and I Am Raven if you haven’t already read them, Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve (a longer read but if it’s the technological elements of the I Am Wolf series that you enjoy the most you should try it), Escape Room by Christopher Edge, Troofriend by Kirsty Applebaum

Blurb: We Are Dragon is the third book in the outstanding, highly original and unputdownable ‘I Am Wolf‘ series from Alastair Chisholm.

Rieka’s world is on fire.

She’s lived her whole life aboard Constructs, giant mechanical creatures that battle each other for territory. Now a new enemy has swept across the land – Dragon. And even with all the survivors united against it, Dragon is winning.

Technically brilliant, Rieka believes that she alone can turn the war. But the path she sets out on is dangerous, both for her and her friends. And all the while, there is a truth about herself she must face.

If she doesn’t, she could destroy everything she’s trying to save.
