I’ve been a School Librarian for over 12 years, working in Libraries that serve 3-13 year olds. Before this I worked for over 9 years in the University of Bristol’s Graduate School of Education and in Bristol’s Public Library Service, often running the Summer Reading Challenges in branches and the Bounce & Rhyme Sessions.
I was a Carnegie Award Judge for 2019 & 2020 and am a member of COGS (Carnegie Awards Organisational Group) plus a committee member for CILIP Youth Libraries Group South West. Through my Library I’m also a member of The Federation of Children’s Book Groups and the School Library Association.
In 2021 I completed the Golden Egg Academy 12 Month Writing for Children and Young Adults with my middle grade superhero comedy Class Zero. I also won a place on the Write Mentor Summer Mentoring Programme with the same title. I’m currently querying both Class Zero and Pond Life, a chapter book about two lazy toads who have to fight for their right to do nothing. Class Zero has been Longlisted for the Guppy Books Open Submission Competition ’25.
I review books via NetGalley, Amazon and Waterstones as well as recommending titles that I’ve enjoyed via my Librarian networks. I mainly read comics, middle grade and teen books but I always enjoy an amusing chapter book and love literary writing, comedy, horror, books with great LGBTQ+ rep and fantasy thriller young adult titles too.
